Mario López-Goicoechea was born in Havana, Cuba, but has lived in London with his wife and two children since 1997. He majored in English at Havana Pedagogical University and has written for The Guardian, Prospect, and Prisma. His first work of fiction, a short story called "Dawn," appeared in The Voice, Britain's leading black newspaper, in 2012.
